Miscellaneous makan-makan

Just to blog about some miscellaneous food stuff which I got hooked on recently :

Cider of Sweet Pear (From Ikea swiss food shop, after the check-out counters) MYR4.5 per can
This drink is really refreshing and promises what it claims on the tin : Refreshing taste of sweet pear. It is a carbonated drink with natural taste of pear.. very straight forward pear sweetness and no nonsense such as artificial flavours. It perks you up after a tiring shopping trip in Ikea. Trust me!

Strange enough.. it goes quite well with this hazelnut chocolate cream cookies.. maybe we were hungry…? So there we go, papa, mommy & Rachel opening up the cookies on the spot and almost finish the whole pack together with the pear cider…

Ballerina brand chocolate cream cookies (From Ikea swiss food shop) MYR3.9

This cookies has another flavour ie strawberry cream filling, even though it is also nice from my past experience but I didn’t buy because the expiry date is quite near.

Fresh Cherries (MBC Fruit Market, Subang Parade, near Big Apple Donuts) MYR9 per 100gm
Very fresh and very sweet!! We were asked to try the samples and Rachel couldn’t stop going back to take the ‘free’ samples even though I have already bought it…
Some time back I bought this from pasar malam and it costs about MYR7 plus I think.. and it’s equally fresh!
I saw MBC fruit market in mid valley too. They display the fruits in a very attractive way.. you just can’t pass by the stalls without getting something healthy..

E-Ru 意如 Vegetarian Restaurant

Having eating out for the past few days including Saturday, plus hb is overseas, Rachel and I have had lots of shopping time at our leisure and at the same time craving for some home cooked and simple dishes. So when we were at Summit USJ for Wall-E, passing by this ‘healthy’ vegetarian restaurant (haha…), even Rachel also agree to eat vegetarian!!

We ordered this Mix Fruit Tea, very nice presentation, with lot’s of fruits in it like lemon slices, orange slices, pear slices, kiwi fruit, pineapples etc. We love this tea! It’s sweet, and a little sour with the natural fragrance of lemon. At the end, we can’t finish the tea (such a big pot!) and take away the remaining in a big cup as our drinks during the movie.

As for our food, also very healthy.. it’s Asparagus with 3 types of mushroom and garnished with wolf berry, and serve with healthy brown rice The asparagus is very fresh and crunchy, the mushroom is very nice too(shitake, button and enoki). It comes with some gravy so just nice for Rachel to finish her rice with it. The wolf berry taste sweet… the natural sweetness. Everything is just plain and simple. I have always like brown rice, and their brown rice is just nice, not too hard and not too lumpy, very nice to chew at! I think the only thing about this dish is that it is not very flavourful and salty. For people who likes strong flavour may not like this, because it is not salty and the taste is ‘just’ enough. For me as I have always prefer ‘not salty’ so it suits me just fine.

This restaurant, is at lower ground floor where cold storage is and next to Johnny Steamboat. Besides serving cooked dishes, they also sell lots of healthy snacks such as brown rice crackers etc. Their wall display will tell you how yummy can vegetarian meals be.

My choice : Seafood Spaghetti
Very creamy and with milk fragrance, it has mussels, prawns, squids, fish fillet and scallop in it Blogging about it makes me fill like having it now… The portion is just nice for an adult so it turned out to be not enough for me as Rachel and I were fighting over the spaghetti…

Reason for the above fighting : Rachel ordered the junior ham and cheese sandwich.. taste is just ok…The look is just ok too…So she starts drooling when she saw my spaghetti.. haha.. However she managed to finish 3 pieces of the sandwich and 30% of my spaghetti.

Strawberry milk shake is of course gooooood in the eye of a child… can see her savouring the last drop using the straw…

Pan Meen at Taman Sri Muda

One of our common lunch hunt is at “3’o clock”. To reach this coffee shop we need make a 3 o’clock turn from the roundabout. Hence the nick.

Restaurant Oriental

Anyway the the main attraction here is the Pan Meen. Girls loves it, guys wonder why girls loves it since have to wait so long to eat.. The Pan mee

There are a few variation to the homemade noodles dough:
1. Meeet (hand torn pieces- most authentic)
2. Pan Meen (long flat noodle)
3. Eu-Meen (long rounded – like yellow noodles).

Our Order Number

The noodles dough are rolled over the noodles maker once / twice before being cut into choiced shape (variety 2 and 3)

Pan Meen Soup Version - RM3.50

Serving styles can also differ. You an also choose to have your pan meen served :
1. Dry, blanch noodles with soya sauce, accompanied by small bowl of soup
2. Soup – noodles in ikan bilis soup stock..

Either way, the noodles are generously topped with soy fried minced meat mixed with sliced black fungus, crispy ikan bilis and sweet leaves (“mani chai”). Yummz..

Pan Meen Dry Version - RM3.50

Noodles comes with 2 types of chilies, the fiery green chili padi with soy sauce and milder sambal (red, green chili with a hint of belacan) drench with lot of calamasi limes. J has this fetish of dipping her noodles into both types of chilies. So usually she takes longer time to finish her pan meen compared to the rest of us.

Chilies - RM0.00

Alternatively, if you are not into the homemade noodles, you can have ‘tau gee’. (Rice based kuih teow like noodles that comes in a pack – can buy from shops) This is served with 2 fish balls & medium sized prawns in the same soup based.

Usually I will request for hand torn noodles with fish ball & prawn in soup. Best of Both World .. since I find this combination not so oily as compared to its original version.

Whilst this review seemed to idolized the pan meen, it does come with one major fault.. MSG in soup!! So usually will have to drink more water after eating this.

Other than this featured pan meen, this coffee shop’s chicken rice (blanched white chicken), mixed pork soup, tai chow are good as well. But we hardly try them since we need to get our weekly pan meen dosage.

Many of our more seasoned colleagues actually boycott this coffee shop since they had very bad experience with the snobbish owners. But for us who haven’t “kena” we still patrol on weekly basis.

The only thing that I don’t like is the stingy fruit seller aunty that asked everyone who pass by her stall if they want to buy fruits. Her fruits are so cut so small but overpriced! I bet she is one of the shop owner’s relatives…

Apple Crumbles at Pastis, The Gardens

After the much satisfied pancake, and after a few hours of shopping, as usual both Rachel and I started to look for a place to sit down again… so of course as a Malaysia, we cannot just sit down… while sitting down, we have to have something chewing in the mouth… so here it goes…

Half way walking to Isetan, this pic jump into our eyes…

At the same time, Rachel : Mommy, here got place to sit down, got your coffee and ice cream… (now you see… use coffee to lure me into this place and order ice cream for her is ‘the’ tactic)

Anyway, this sure looks good… and half price… ok laa… we are typical Malaysian, anything half price, Kill!!!

I’m still very full with the pancakes.. so only ordered this half price thingy : Apple Crumble with ice cream. Have a look and compare the one in the pic and real stuff.

It is not as nice looking as the picture, the taste is just OK… The plus is the apple filling is very generous and big cubes, doesn’t taste too sweet. The crumbles on top is very crispy too. Not too sweet too.

This open concept shop is right in front of Isetan and has a very attractive display of yummy chocolates (sorry forgot to take pics of that…) From the menu, there is another thing that attracts me, ie the English Afternoon Tea, comes in the traditional English style 3 tiers tray with a varieties of savoury and sweet desserts… probably will try next time when we have more people.

Oyster Mee Sua

士林蚝仔面线
It was one of the shopping day’s afternoon around 4.30pm, too full for early dinner and too hungry for light snacks… Passed by this Taiwanese stall on lower ground floor on the way to The Curve and the smell of the oyster sauce lead us to this bowl of Oyster Mee Sua :

We’ve had this several times but since now we are starting our blogger’s life (haha…) so thought of just taking this photo to ‘pass up my homework’…

As usual, it is soooo nice… the oyster sauce fragrance, the home made mee sua with uneven thickness that makes it special when you bite on it, the oyster… it’s fresh and when you bite on it … pst… mmmm… nice….

The only thing I don’t like about this mee sua is the shredded chicken.. to me, it is too dry, it is breast meat and tasteless.. so you got to eat the chicken together with the mee sua. Also, of course it could be a lot better if the oyster is more…

Advice : eat the oyster alone to enjoy the fresh taste.

It’s nice to have this as a savoury afternoon slight heavy snacks.. and we still can have our dinner around 7.30pm.

Paddington House Of Pancakes

Hello everyone :) All the food lovers who will do 'anything' for food out there..

As you all know, 'anything' including swallowing the saliva in front of the delicious food just to take the pictures of the food to post up to the blog; taking pictures of every corner of the restaurants, including the deco, menu, signboard, entrances, wall, ceiling, lamp (ignoring the starring of the waitress)..

In case you are wondering who I am, ok, I am ‘C’ J

I promised to blog the first one for Bread Basket Bakery, but I was too slow and lazier then the other 3 lazy bloggers… so here I am now.. my first blog on :

Paddington House of Pancakes, Mid Valley

I have a soft spot for pancakes… so when I see this on the way to The Gardens, my brain and heart have already pulled my legs into this shop and since Rachel has also been a fan of my home-cooked pan cakes, she is also very eager to try out something different from what mommy has been cooking for a decade…

The menu is like those DIY books… and about the size of a wedding album.. It is thick, with lots of pictures and explanations, teaching you how to eat a pan cake etc. The variety is huge! I took quite some time to decide what to eat, then call the waiter to change, and then in the same minute change back to the original order (haha…) Rachel was very cool : Mommy, I just want the normal pancake without anything.

So I had this.. Sorry I didn’t get the name (pls pardon this inexperience food blogger..)

As you can see it has pancakes, bacon, caramelized banana, fresh lettuce and cherry tomato. It comes with some kind of onion dip (nice, a bit sweet and tangy) and sour cream. When I cut the pancake, I was shock that some creamy stuff flow out from the pancake… a bit disappointed and I called the waiter… ‘How come you pancake is not cooked..?’

‘Oh this is mashed potato pancake ma’am’
‘Oh I see… (haha…. Blushed…)’

I didn’t realized it was a mashed potato pancake, I blame it on the menu that has too many instructions and wordings!! Anyway, this pancake turns out to be oh soooooooo nice. Look at the creamy filling, flowing out from the pancake! And just perfect to go with the bacon. And we are supposed to eat like this as instructed, cut a piece of pancake, and cut a piece of the side dish and put it together into the mouth and mmmmmmm………

Rachel had this plain pancakes which turns out to be very nice too! Maybe sometimes simple and nice is still the best?!? The plain pancake is think and fluffy, goes very well with the butter, maple syrup and the raspberry jam.
All in all, we finished everything on the table and continue our shopping adventure with huge satisfaction.

Oh, last but not least, my Flat White compliments very well with the melt in the mouth pancakes, nice…
